• “His father, Clark Nye, grandfather of our subject, was the pioneer of the family in this country, coming here from Herkimer county. New York, in 1846, but in 1849 went to California during the gold fever, going by vessel via the horn, and on his return located on what is now the old homestead, where he spent the balance of his days, dying at the age of eighty-six years.”
