• “Black Hawk remained there in camp about two weeks, and during that time the Hall girls were ransomed for the sum of $2,000, paid in horses, etc. This was in June, 1832, and the tent poles, ashes and brands of the Indian camp fires were visible for a number of years after the settlement of Janesville.
