The evidence

• “From his long continuance in, and his associations with Vermont, he claimed, without repudiating the paternity of his native state, to be a Green Mountain boy. In 1842 he removed to Wisconsin, and in 1843 settled in Elkhorn, Walworth county, where he ever after resided. In 1846 he was elected judge of probate, which office he held until the probate was merged into the county court.”
