• “It was late in the fall before he was ready to return from New York, over a thousand-mile journey, and the canal boats and steamboats were laid up for winter—but the walking was good. And so, with knapsack on back, he walked all the way back to Jefferson Prairie (16) and arrived there shortly after New Years, 1843. On the 3d of July, the same year, he married Sigri Nilsen, of Muskego, Eacine county.”
