The railroad extended its road to Appleton.

The evidence

• “Paul & Fond du Lac company, and at the subsequent session, in the following year, it was authorized to' consolidate with the new company, which it did in the spring of that year, and thus obtained the grant of 3,840 acres per mile along its entire line, from Fond du Lac northerly to the state line between Wisconsin and Michigan. It extended its road to Oshkosh in 1859, to Appleton in 1861, and in 1862 to Fort Howard, forming a line two hundred and forty-two miles long. The line from Fort Howard to Escanaba, one hundred and fourteen miles long, was opened in December,'1872, and made a connection with the peninsular railroad of Michigan.”
