• “At the age of twenty he came west to La Porte, Ind., and there learned the carpenter trade. In 1843 he began the study of medicine and graduated three years later from the LaPorte Medical College. In 1853 he was elected to the legislature of Wisconsin and was again elected to the general asembly in 1873.”
