The region
- 1828 The Winnebago war took place; P41 describes it as a war between Colonel Dodge and Chief Red Bird, in which Red Bird gave himself up.
- 1828 Government soldiers made the first recorded cutting of lumber on the stream, at the building of Fort Winnebago.
- August 25, 1828 The United States made a treaty at Green Bay with the Winnebago and other tribes, to remove difficulties arising from white occupation of the unceded mining country of southwestern Wisconsin.
- 1828 A lead-mining rush, called "the lead fever of 1828," occurred.
