The picture

Seen upright (after the 90-degree turn): the front end of an interurban or streetcar, number 129, standing tilted and nose-high over a weedy embankment, apparently off the track; its front truck and underframe are exposed above the ground; a man leans out of the open front window, a man in a cap and work clothes stands on the front step, another man stands on the side platform behind him, and a fourth man in a white shirt crouches beneath the front end.

  • Printing: real photo · monochrome
  • Lettering in the picture: 129 (on the car's dash)
  • Condition: none visible

Uncertain readings:

  • front, car number: 129 (or 128) — the last figure is painted in pale numerals on a pale dash
  • front, printing: real photo (or modern reprint) — the image is a sharp, high-contrast photograph, and the back is bright white and unaged with a plain outlined 'POST CARD' design; it may be a later copy print of an old photograph

Reader's note: The front is scanned sideways: it must turn 90 degrees clockwise to be upright, and then the car stands on its wheels, nose-high and tilted over an embankment, rather than lying on its side. The file name's 'overturned' reflects the sideways scan. Unused, with no writing. No caption names the line or the place.

Scans: Overturned Interurban Streetcar Wreck - 01.png and Overturned Interurban Streetcar Wreck - 02.png (sha256 f4382784d890…, de6557703580…). Media: front — the scanner's white edge trimmed: kept pixels [6, 0, 1072, 672]; turned 90° clockwise (scanned sideways); back — edge not found (the card is as white as the scanner bed): left whole, checked by eye
