His father died in Newark Sept. 12, 1859, of apoplexy; his mother is still living with him on the farm. Vernon married July 1, 1875, Nellie Curtice, and they have four children — Maud and Mabel (twins), Franklin and Alice. He is now serving as Town Clerk, and has held that office two years ; was also Town Treasurer three terms, and has been Secretary and Treasurer of the Newark Farmer's Club since its organization.
