To the list of the dead should be added the names of J. Lyford Peavey, who died in hospital, and of Michael Clark, of the Eighth Illinois Cavalry, killed at Millikcn's Bend June 6, 1863, and Jared H. Knapp, who fell at Gettysburg July 1, 1863, making forty-six who died, twenty-eight of them, or 60 per cent, by wounds. This proportion of deaths in battle is double that which prevailed in the army in general, and may be taken as showing that the sons of the College were men ready, in a good cause, to go to the front.
