O. Beloit; born in Newark Aug. 2, 1844 ; he is the pon of Gunder Knutson, who was born in Norway in 1812 ; emigrated to Wisconsin, and located in the town of Newark in 1843, near the same large spring on Section 4 that his brother Gulack JCnutson had located on in 1841 ; the land that he bought was owned by Gunnel Stordock, who came in September, 1841, to live near the spring also, and owned forty acres, which he sold; he made improvements, and built house and barns. He married, in Norway, Sarah Taurjon, widow of Ole Nelson (by whom she had three children), and they had three more children ; one is living, Knud Gunder; the name of Springen is derived from being residents by the large spring ; his wife died in 1854, during the cholera in this town, by which great numbers died.
