You're helping with this event: Fall 1839, The Union school house was built by private subscription at the northeast corner of School and Prospect streets in Beloit; P21, P79 and one passage record that a school-house was built in 1839 by the voluntary offerings of the settlers, and P205 notes the first public school opened there under Hazen Cheney, who taught during the years 1839-40.
